  • Pot: Choose a large, deep pot with a drainage hole at the bottom.
  • Sunlight: Cardamom plants don’t like direct sunlight. Place them in a location that receives filtered sunlight or mild morning sunlight.
  • Temperature: It likes warm and humid environment.
  • Water: The soil should always remain moist, but make sure it is not wet.

How to plant cardamom in a pot

1. Choose the right plant: Growing a cardamom plant from commercially available seeds is a difficult and time-consuming task. The easiest way is to purchase a small cardamom plant, or rhizome, from a reputable nursery. The rhizome is the root part from which new shoots emerge.

2. Prepare the pot: First, cover the hole in the pot with a stone or a broken piece of potting soil to prevent soil from spilling out. Now, fill the pot with the prepared soil.

3. Plant: Place the rhizome in the center of the pot. Make sure the top of the rhizome is slightly above the soil surface. Now, slowly fill in soil around it and press it down gently.

4. Consider watering and location: Water the plant immediately after planting. Add enough water so that it starts to flow out of the hole in the bottom of the pot. Now, place the pot in a place out of direct sunlight, such as a corner of a balcony or under a large tree.

5. Care Tips:

  • Regular watering: Water daily in summer and as needed in winter.
  • Fertilizer: Apply organic fertilizer every 2-3 months to keep the plant healthy.
  • Pruning: Remove old or yellowing leaves from the plant regularly. This will encourage new shoots to emerge.
  • Pests: If any pest is seen on the plant, spray neem oil mixed with water.

With a little effort and proper care, your cardamom plant will remain healthy and fill your home with a natural and pleasant aroma.
