Great news has arrived for the women of Bihar ahead of the assembly elections. Under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Chief Minister Women's Employment Scheme, funds were transferred to beneficiaries' accounts today, September 22nd, as the first installment. Under this scheme, the state government is spending ₹5,000 crore to help women start self-employment or expand existing businesses. This amount was transferred to the bank accounts of women in Bihar through Direct Benefit Transfer.
Amount and Loan Facility Under the Scheme
In the first phase of the Chief Minister Women's Employment Scheme, every woman was given ₹10,000 directly into her bank account. This amount will help women start businesses. After this, they will be given a loan of ₹15,000, ₹75,000, or a maximum of ₹2 lakh, depending on the status and progress of their business. The interest rate on the loan is set at 12 percent per annum. The repayment period for this interest will be between 1 and 3 years, so that women do not face any financial burden. Many experts say that this scheme not only provides financial assistance but also aims to make women self-reliant through technical training.
Which women will not receive the first installment of the scheme?
In Bihar, 1.5 crore rural women and 4.66 lakh urban women have applied for the Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme so far. Additionally, more than 1.4 lakh women have applied to join groups. The scheme's benefits will only be available to women associated with Jeevika Self Help Groups; women who are not associated with these groups will not be eligible. Currently, there are 10.81 lakh active Jeevika Self Help Groups in the state, with 1.34 crore women associated with them. These groups are providing women with self-employment opportunities in agriculture, handicrafts, sewing, small industries, and grocery trade.
Application Process for Joining the Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme
To join the Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme, rural women must submit an application at their village organization. Women who are not associated with a Jeevika Self-Help Group must first apply to join the group. Urban women can apply online by visiting Jeevika's official website, www.brlps.in. Women already associated with a Jeevika Self-Help Group do not need to apply online. To benefit from this scheme, women applying must be between 18 and 60 years of age, and neither the applicant nor their husband must be an income tax payer or a government employee.
