Cab President: Former captain in Indian cricket, Sourav Ganguly has again taken over the command of the Bengal Cricket Association (CAB). He was elected unopposed president at the 94th annual general meeting (AGM) of CAB held in Kolkata on 22 September 2025. With this election, Ganguly became the head of Cab for the second consecutive term. Earlier, Ganguly was the President of CAB from 2015 to 2019 and became the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019. He could not remain active in CAB for three years during the ‘Cooling of’ period under the BCCI constitution, which he again took command of Bengal cricket after the end.

Big announcement with returning to the post of president

Sourav Ganguly has replaced his elder brother Snehashish Ganguly, who was the President of CAB for the last three years. He had to leave the post due to the completion of six years of Snehashish’s tenure. Ganguly made many big announcements with the return. He has planned to give grandeur and capacity like the old days to the famous Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Ganguly said that the capacity of the stadium will again be delivered to about one lakh spectators. However, the project will begin after the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held next year.

Return of big matches in Eden

The former captain announced that the organizing of important matches will be increased at the Eden Gardens Stadium. The first major tournament will be the T20 World Cup 2026, with many important matches in Kolkata. At the time of Ganguly’s return to Cab, another big news is that Test cricket is returning to Kolkata after 6 years. In November 2025, the second match of the Test series between India and South Africa will be played in Eden. Earlier in 2019, the first day-night test between India and Bangladesh was also successfully held in Eden under the leadership of Ganguly.

The future of Bengal cricket

The purpose of CAB is to bring Bengal cricket to new heights under the chairmanship of Ganguly. The plan to restore the grand appearance of the Eden Gardens and attract big matches shows that Ganguly will prioritize the game and audience of Bengal cricket. Under his leadership, young cricketers will get encouragement and experience and Kolkata will be taken important steps towards maintaining the main center of international cricket.
