Voter aadhaar e-sign feature: The Election Commission (EC) has made a big change about the online voter ID service. Now verification from Aadhaar -linked mobile number will be necessary to add a new name to the voter list. For this, EC has started the E-Sign feature on its ECINET portal and app. The Election Commission has made this change after the case of deleting thousands of voters in Aland assembly seat in Karnataka. Let us know what is e-sign, how it will stop the mosque of the voter list and now what to do to delete and update the voter ID.

What is e-sign facility?

The e-sign is an online electronic sign service provided by the Government of India through the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which allows users to digitally sign a document using the Aadhaar number. Now this facility has been started as a verification process to delete or improve the voter ID.

Will the voter list not be able to be misuse?

Earlier, the form could be submitted only by linking the mobile with the voter ID number (EPIC), due to which the wrong number was used many times. Now under the E-Sign feature, the applicant will have to enter the Aadhaar number and will get OTP on Aadhaar-related mobiles and only after giving consent, the form can be submitted. Only after the completion of the E-Sign Process, the applicant will be re-directed to the ECINET portal to submit the form. This rule will be applicable to Form 6 (New Registration), Form 7 (Delishan/Objection) and Form 8 (correction).

Why changed?

A case of thousands of fake voter deulsion applications was revealed in Aland assembly seat of Karnataka. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raised the issue on 18 September. The investigation found that out of 6,018 delivered requests, only 24 were correct, the rest were found to be wrong. In many places the mobile numbers used for OTP were not of real voters. This incident forced EC to harden the security and verification process and these changes were made.

Physical verification will be necessary

EC says that no voter's name can be deleted directly online. For this, physical verification is necessary by the concerned booth level officer (BLO) and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). In every case, the voter will be given full opportunity to speak.

What is ECINET?

ECINET, which was launched earlier this year, brings around 40 old apps and portals to one place, including Eronet. Voters can easily apply online through this platform and officials can take action on them. The E-sign feature has been added to this platform to ensure transparency and safety.
