Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan’s new film Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra has created history at the box office. The film has earned ₹142.90 crore in India. With this milestone, it has surpassed the record set by Manjummel Boys.
The movie is now the highest-grossing Malayalam film in India. It is also a major achievement for female-led films. Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is the first Malayalam film with a woman in the lead to cross the ₹100 crore mark. In India, it stands as the third highest-grossing female-led film of all time.
The box office journey of the film is impressive. The first week brought in ₹54.7 crore. The second week earned ₹47 crore. The third week added ₹27.1 crore. By the fourth week, the film collected another ₹13.25 crore. Even after weeks in theatres, it maintained strong momentum.
The film crossed the benchmark of Manjummel Boys with a Friday earning of ₹85 lakh. The Malayalam version contributed the most to its success. It collected ₹111.17 crore. The Tamil version brought in ₹14.48 crore. The Telugu version earned ₹13.65 crore.
The film has been directed by Dominic Arun. Alongside Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan, the cast includes Naslen in a significant role. The project is also part of a larger vision. Dulquer and Dominic have planned a five-part film universe under the Lokah banner. Actor Tovino Thomas is expected to appear in the upcoming chapters.
Beyond numbers, the success of Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra carries symbolic weight. It has redefined what Malayalam cinema can achieve at the national level. It has also set new standards for female-led films in India.
