“I think it’s very difficult for women over 40 to have children,” Chen said during an episode of the Chinese variety show “Our Love Song,” as reported by The Star.
She added that she and her husband, 37-year-old Malaysian businessman Alan Chen, are taking a relaxed approach to family planning.
“It’s okay if we have a child, and it’s fine if we don’t,” the actress said. “Whatever life gives you at a certain time is what it’s meant to be. I’ve come to terms with it.”
She also stated that if she decided to have children in the future, she would consider in vitro fertilization (IVF) “or whatever it takes.”
In Oct. 2024, Chen addressed public criticism over her decision to remain childless, according to Yahoo!. When some netizens questioned who would care for her in old age, she responded during a live social media session: “Why don’t you take good care of yourself? Why do you care if I have anyone to take care of me? I should be living better than you.”
The actress also challenged the idea that the longevity of a marriage depends on having children, asking: “If you give birth to ten children, will your marriage last longer?”
Known as the “Queen of Idol Dramas,” Chen has become a household name with starring roles in hit series such as “The Prince Who Turns into a Frog,” “Fated to Love You,” and “The Queen of SOP.”
Her husband Alan reportedly comes from a wealthy Malaysian family and is involved in health supplements and real estate. He also owns private jets, a collection of luxury cars, and is passionate about oil painting.
The couple first met in 2019 on the Chinese dating show “Meeting Mr. Right 2” and celebrated their wedding in 2024, two years after officially registering their marriage.
