Karwa Chauth 2025: Rituals, puja muhurat, and significance you must know

With the festive season being around the corner one special festival that holds a special place for married women is also approaching. Yes we are talking about Karwa Chauth. This festival is a blend of faith love and devotion. Women celebrate this day by fasting for marital harmony sacrifice and blessings. In 2025 this sacred vrat will be observed on Friday 10 October marking a day when love and tradition unite most spiritually. Significance of Karwa Chauth Karwa Chauth is not just about fasting; it is about prayers for a long and healthy life of the husband strengthening of the marital bond and the prosperity of the family. The word Karwa or Karak refers to the earthen pot used for offering argha (water) to the moon symbolising prosperity faith and continuity of tradition. This festival is about devotion togetherness and purity in relationships. Rituals and Traditions On this day women usually have a pre-dawn meal called Sargi which is prepared by the mother-in-law for her daughter-in-law. The preparation usually has fruits sweets parathas and dry fruits. This meal provides women with the strength to observe the nirjala vrat (fast without food or water) throughout the day. In the evening women usually get all decked up in festive attire adorn themselves with mehndi and participate in evening puja rituals. They worship Lord Shiva Goddess Parvati Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha before seeing the moon. The fast is broken only after offering argha to the moon with a Karwa and seeking blessings for their husband’s well-being. Regional Variations and Associated Vrats While Karwa Chauth is widely celebrated in North India devotees in Maharashtra and Southern states observe the day as Vakratunda Sankashti Chaturthi dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Four days later Ahoi Ashtami Vrat is observed for the well-being of sons. Timings and Muhurat 2025 According to Drik Panchang the puja muhurat for Karwa Chauth in 2025 is from 5:57 PM to 7:11 PM (duration 1 hour 14 minutes). The fasting time will last from 6:19 AM to 8:13 PM (13 hours 54 minutes). Moonrise is expected at 8:13 PM. Married women will break their fast only after sighting the moon and completing the ritual offerings.
