Tech Tips: Even expensive Wi-Fi packages won't increase internet speed if the router is installed in the wrong place; correct these mistakes..

Nowadays, Wi-Fi has become a necessity for every home. From smartphones to laptops, TVs, and even smart home devices now rely on it. However, many people complain about poor speeds or that the signal doesn't reach every part of the house. One major reason for this is improper placement of the Wi-Fi router. Poor placement can make even a fast internet connection feel slow. However, with a little common sense, you can overcome the problem of slow internet. Let's find out how...

Place the router in the center of the house and at a higher level.

Router signals typically spread in a circular shape (360 degrees). Therefore, placing it in the center of the house (such as the living room or hall) and at a height above the ground (such as on a shelf or wall) ensures even coverage throughout the house. If there are multiple floors, it's best to place the router on the middle floor.

Don't place it behind a cupboard.

Place the router in an open and well-ventilated area. Hiding behind closed cupboards, cabinets, or other objects can block signals and cause the router to overheat and reduce performance. Place the router in an open area so that walls and large furniture don't block the signal. If your router has multiple antennas, position them in different directions. This helps the signal spread better in both vertical and horizontal directions.

Electronic Devices Block Signals

Devices like microwave ovens, cordless phones, televisions, and large computer monitors operate on the same 2.4 GHz frequency band that most Wi-Fi routers use. Placing the router near them can interfere with the signal. Therefore, limit the use of these devices around the router.

Metal and Concrete Block Signals

Large metal objects (like refrigerators) and thick concrete or brick walls are some of the biggest obstacles to Wi-Fi signals. They absorb signals or block them completely. Therefore, place your router in a room where you use the internet frequently or where you work on your computer or laptop. This will provide greater signal strength.

Adjust the Antennas
If your router has multiple antennas, set them in different directions, such as one straight ahead and the other at 90 degrees. This helps the signal spread better in both vertical and horizontal directions.
