New Delhi: The festival of Navratri is a sacred occasion dedicated to the worship of divine power. During these nine days, devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga, and along with fasting and rituals, they especially perform Kanya Pujan. This is considered the most important ritual of Navratri, as young girls are worshipped as the living embodiment of Goddess Durga. It is believed that by respecting these girls, Goddess Durga becomes pleased and blesses the family with happiness, prosperity, health, and well-being.
According to tradition, many devotees perform Kanya Pujan especially on the day of Ashtami. This year, the Ashtami of Sharadiya Navratri will fall on 30 September 2025 (Tuesday). On this day, worshipping young girls in the form of Goddess Durga is considered highly auspicious. The Ashtami ritual is not just a religious tradition but also a symbol of respect for feminine power and the innocence of childhood. It brings divine grace and positive energy into the lives of devotees.
