Instagram platform: The rumor spreading on the social media platform Instagram that it shows personal advertisement for you by listening to your conversation through your phone’s microphone, now the head of Instagram has been rejected directly by Adam Moseri, the head of the Instagram. Adam Moseri clearly said in a video message that we do not listen to your words. We do not use the microphone of your phone to listen to you secretly.
This statement has come up at a time when many Indian users believe that the same product appears as an advertisement at their feed immediately after talking about a particular product. Instagram has repeatedly rejected this myth, but doubt remains in the minds of users.
Adam Moseri said that if Instagram was secretly recording your conversation, users would see rapid consumption of battery, microphone uses and privacy violations. Adam Moseri insisted that we do not listen to you. We do not use the microphone of the phone to hear your words.
Adam Moseri gave some major reasons that it seems that the advertisements seen on Instagram are to your conversation:
You must have searched or clicked earlier – many times the users forget whether they clicked on a product link or visited a shopping site. Instagram works with advertiser, so your browsing history affects advertisements.
Friends and people with equal interest – Instagram also sees what your friend and people like you are interacting on. If your friend searches for a product, it can also be seen on your feed.
You must have already seen advertisements-sometimes users scroll the advertisement quickly and later when the same product is discussed, it seems that Instagram showed it after the conversation.
Simple coincidence – Adam Moseri believes that sometimes it can also be a coincidence of time.
In 2016, Facebook also clearly stated that it does not use microphone for advertising. In 2018, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said a clear ‘no’ at the US Senate hearing. It is also written on the official help page of Instagram- until you allow, we do not use your microphone and only when a feature is being used for which it is required. Despite this, doubt about this myth is intact globally, especially in India, among users.
