Deep depression passes off Odisha coast, heavy to very heavy rainfall alert in 5 Jharkhand districts today

Weather Jharkhand: A deep depression has passed through Gopalpur, Odisha, with a wind speed of 55 to 75 kilometers per hour (kph) as it passed through the coast. Heavy rains lashed Odisha as the depression crossed the state’s coast near Gopalpur in Ganjam district this evening, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It also said an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for five districts in Jharkhand, with flash floods also expected in these districts.

Deep depression moves towards Odisha coast at a speed of 18 kmph

The IMD issued a bulletin stating that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moved towards the coast at a speed of 18 kmph during the six hours before noon. The weather department said that at 11:30 am on Thursday, the storm was centered about 90 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), 140 km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 140 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha), 230 km east-northeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 240 km southwest of Paradip (Odisha). It crossed the Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts near Gopalpur at 5 pm.

It will weaken into a deep depression on October 3 and turn into a depression.

Abhishek Anand, Deputy Chief of the Meteorological Center, Ranchi, stated that the deep depression will weaken and intensify into a depression by the morning of October 3rd. This impact could cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in at least five districts of Jharkhand (East Singhbhum, Khunti, Lohardaga, Saraikela, and West Singhbhum). Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely to cause flash flooding in some areas. Therefore, farmers and the public have been advised to remain vigilant and cautious.

The Meteorological Center, Ranchi, has issued a special bulletin stating that an orange alert has been issued for the Chatra, Garhwa, Latehar, Palamu, and Hazaribagh districts of Jharkhand on October 3rd. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in these districts. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Dhanbad, Giridih, Koderma, Lohardaga, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, and Gumla districts. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in these districts.

The Meteorological Department has stated that due to the current weather system, light to moderate rainfall will occur in almost all districts of Jharkhand until October 5th. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also possible in some districts. Farmers are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Thunderstorms and strong winds are also possible in some areas during this period.

Rainfall in the last 24 hours was 401 percent more than normal.

From October 1st to 8:30 am on October 2nd, 21 centers in Jharkhand experienced rainfall. During this 24-hour period, Jharkhand received 401 percent more rainfall than normal. Rainfall ranged from 22 mm to 208 mm at the 21 centers. Overall, Jharkhand received 22.6 mm of rainfall instead of the normal 4.5 mm. In two days, the state received 27.5 mm of rainfall instead of the expected 7.8 mm.

Weather forecast for the past 24 hours shows that the minimum temperature in Latehar dropped to 18.4 degrees Celsius following rainfall in several districts. Meanwhile, Jharkhand’s highest maximum temperature, 31.8 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Daltenganj, Palamu. The Meteorological Department stated that as of 5:30 pm today, Godda received 18.5 mm of rainfall. Ranchi recorded 6 mm of rainfall.
