Authorities at Imphal Airport apprehended two individuals on charges of attempting to smuggle a suspected banned substance (cannabis) on September 26. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel displayed heightened vigilance during a random X-BIS inspection. The two travelers, who were set to board a domestic flight to Delhi, were redirected for further baggage checks. During this process, officials discovered 21.36 kilograms of the suspected illegal substance. Following this seizure, the individuals were handed over to local police for further legal action.
In a decisive operation aimed at curbing illegal drug trafficking, a joint team of 22 personnel from the Assam Rifles and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) successfully arrested two suspects in Chandel district, Manipur. This operation was initiated based on specific intelligence reports. Acting swiftly on the information, a mobile vehicle checkpoint was established in the Bala Point area. During surveillance, a white gypsy and a Kenbo motorcycle were observed approaching the checkpoint. However, both vehicles halted approximately 60 to 70 meters before reaching the checkpoint, and the occupants attempted to flee into the surrounding wilderness.
The search team promptly pursued the suspects and initiated a thorough search of the area. After relentless efforts, the team successfully apprehended both individuals. A detailed examination of the vehicles and suspects led to the recovery of 67.26 kilograms of WY tablets, a potent narcotic with an estimated market value of ₹53.8 crores. The seized drugs and the arrested individuals were subsequently handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further investigation and legal proceedings. This operation exemplifies the collaboration between the Assam Rifles and the NCB in addressing the threat of drug trafficking in the region.
