Cheque clearing time:Good news for all! If you deposit the check in the bank and you have to wait for two days to get the money, then this problem is going to end now. This delay often puts people into a lot of trouble, but now the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has implemented a new rule. From 4 October 2025, the check clearing system will change. Now your check will be cleared in hours and the money will come directly to your account.
Let us understand step by step how this new RBI’s checket clearing system will work… What is its timing and clearing process, and what benefits you will get from it.
How will the new system work?
The RBI has made the current check tranquus system faster. Now as soon as you submit the check in the bank, its scan copy will be sent directly to the clearing house, then the payment will reach the bank. There the bank will have to pass or reject the check within the stipulated time. This will reduce the clearing time from 2 days to just a few hours. Earlier it used to take 48 hours, now check clearing time will be done in just a few hours.
These changes will lead to the checking system to concentrate processing, which will make funds available quickly.
RBI will implement new rule in two stages
RBI will implement the new rule in two steps. The first phase will run from 4 October 2025 to 3 January 2026. During this time, the bank will have to give confirmation on the check by 7 pm. If no response comes, the check will automatically clear.
The second phase will start from 3 January 2026. Here the bank will have to clear within three hours of the check. For example, if you submit the check at 10 am, it will be cleared by 1 pm. These steps will further reduce check clearing time, so that customers get fast service.
This is timing and clearing process
Banks will have to run contiguous check presentation sessions from 10 am to 4 pm, that is, scan copies will be sent to Clearing House throughout the day. Confirmation in the first phase is necessary by 7 pm. The check will have to be cleared in just 3 hours from the second stage. After the check is cleared, the bank will have to deposit the money in your account within an hour.
This means, after depositing the check, the money will come to the account almost the same day. This step of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will further strengthen the check tranquus system, which will benefit everyone.
