Giving a historical boost to South Korea’s semiconductor domination, Samsung Electronics and SK Hinix have signed letters to supply 900,000 DRAM wafers to OpenAI by 2029, which will emphasize the Stegate Infrastructure Campaign of the AI leading. This huge commitment-which will potentially take 40% of the global DRAM production-contains premium high-bandwidth memory (HBM) adapted to the next generation AI models, which will invest trillion vons in Chip Ecosystem in Korea.

The agreement, unveiled on Wednesday after a high-profile summit at Seoul’s Yongsan President’s Office, establishs both as the major pillars of Stargate with Nvidia and Oracle. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman appreciated Korea’s “incredible technical talent, world-class infrastructure, strong government support and flourishing AI ecosystem” and pledged to cooperate to bring the country to the top three AI ranks in the world. Altman met President Li J-Mayang, Samsung’s JY Lee and SK’s Chet-Won, where Lee proposed regulatory concessions such as making financial-industrial separation easier to promote AI investment.

As a complement to increase the supply, OpenAI gave the green signal to two 20-MEGAWT “Stargate Korea” data centers outside Seoul: one in Pohang, North Gyongsang, through Samsung SDS, and the other with SK Telecom in South Jiola. This is followed by an important MoU with the Ministry of Science and ICT, which aims to bring regional AI development, public sector familiarity, arrival of talents and speed in startups.

On the lines of the AWS Ulsan enterprise with the SK Group in June, these steps crown Korea in the Asia-Pacific region, which takes advantage of its 70% DRAM and 80% HBM hold on the market. Rowse in shares: Samsung 4.7%, SK Hinics increased 12%, indicating investors’ enthusiasm at a deal of over $ 70 billion.

As the Korean chapter of Stargate is moving forward, Altman emphasized the same spread as AI. With the second largest payment user base of chat GGPT, these alliances can redefine the global computing landscape, mixing Seoul’s fabs with the vision of Silicon Valley.
