New Delhi: Team Indias ODI squad for the Australia series has been announced which features several changes including Shubman Gill replacing Rohit Sharma as ODI captain and Shreyas Iyer being named vice-captain. Former Chairman of Selectors Kris Srikkanth has questioned Sanju Samsons exclusion from Indias ODI squad for the Australia series. The 1983 World Cup winner called Samsons exclusion unfair reflecting on the wicketkeepers impressive record and his century in the last ODI. Srikkanth questions Samsons exclusion Again very unfair. Sanju should have been there considering he scored a century in his last ODI. So every day the reason for change keeps shifting for each individual. One day you make him bat at 5 then another day you make him open Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel. Srikkanth criticized the approach of the selectors and team management. During the Asia Cup 2025 Samson came into bat at different position and was also pushed to number eight against Pakistan and now he has been left out of the ODI squad even though Rishabh Pant isnt in the team. Dhruv Jurel who has played only seven List A matches has been chosen over him a decision Srikkanth finds puzzling. Srikkanth slams team managements approach Sometimes you send him at 7 or 8. How did Dhruv Jurel suddenly come in? Sanju may or may not feature in the 11 but he has to be given the first right of refusal Srikkanth added. The cricketer-turned-commentator believes such decisions might impact players negatively as those in contention are suddenly dropped in favor of others. Srikkanth pointed to Yashasvi Jaiswal as an example he wasn’t part of the Asia Cup squad yet Shubman Gill was chosen over him even though Jaiswal had been rested from T20Is rather than being excluded. By making such selections constantly they are confusing the players themselves. Even though we arent sure every day what the selection will be. Suddenly Yashasvi Jaiswal is there and then the next minute he wont be there. By chopping and changing all the time theyll dent the confidence of the players he added.
