Stefon Diggs made an emotional return to Buffalo Bills territory on Sunday but this time as a New England Patriots player. The former Bills star returned to Highmark Stadium on Sunday night wearing Patriots colors, and carrying four years of memories.

Stefon Diggs said it would be emotional. It was.

"Nostalgic," Diggs told NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark on the field prior to kickoff. "It's been a long time. Obviously I've got a lot of love and respect for this team and fan base. I'm excited. I waited all week for it."

The wide receiver, who left the Bills earlier this year, stepped onto Highmark Stadium wearing the Patriots’ colours and was met with audible boos from the home crowd. Diggs, who signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal with the New England Patriots in March, was back under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football, the same stage where he once starred alongside Josh Allen.

Bills fans booed Diggs as he walked out of the tunnel and trotted onto the field. Diggs greeted several former teammates with hugs — including Josh Allen, Spencer Brown, Dion Dawkins and James Cook — before walking over to Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott for a long embrace.

Diggs acknowledged this week that returning to Buffalo would hit differently.

“People are going to make it a huge thing. It is a huge thing for me,” Diggs said. “I got a lot of respect and a lot of love for that city, that fan base and even the players over there. It’s going to be so nice to see those guys.

"It’s going to be a little bit emotional. I try to keep the main thing the main thing but it’s my first time back there. It’s going to be a hell of an atmosphere. I try to be as professional but obviously I hold them near and dear to my heart. Football means a lot to me, and the guys that I spent a lot of time with over there, I'm going to give them a big hug. It's going to be a little bit emotional. I try to keep the main thing the main thing but it's my first time back there. It's going to be a hell of an atmosphere."

The 30-year-old receiver signed a three-year contract with the Patriots in March worth $63.5 million. Many Buffalo supporters viewed his move to a rival team as disloyalty, which likely fuelled the jeers echoing through the stands.

Stefon Diggs on Cardi B vs Nicki Minaj feud

Adding to the spotlight, Diggs found himself mentioned in an unrelated pop-culture dispute between rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. The feud erupted when Minaj mocked Cardi B’s album sales, prompting Cardi to respond with personal remarks. Their argument intensified when Minaj made offensive comments about Cardi’s family and included a crude reference to Diggs and his relationship with Cardi.

However, last month, Cardi B who is pregnant with his baby deleted their joint pictures off of her Instagram two months after the “Drip” rapper and NFL player Stefon Diggs faced breakup rumors.

“I’m very dramatic,” the Grammy winner explained during her Sept. 23 appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “That’s the thing. Something that to people is a big deal, to me, is not a big deal at the moment. And then it became something it’s not.”

The feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B ignited when Minaj mocked the sales of Cardi B’s latest album, Am I the Drama?, claiming the numbers were exaggerated and criticizing the heavy discounts.

The NFL shared a video of Diggs’ entrance, but kept it muted—though numerous other social media clips made the boos clearly audible. Cardi B fired back, accusing Minaj of comparing herself to younger artists and telling her to measure her achievements against legends like Rihanna and Taylor Swift.

What started as professional rivalry quickly turned personal, with both exchanging harsh insults targeting each other’s families, children, and romantic relationships. Nicki went after Cardi B’s daughter, while Cardi B retaliated with claims about Minaj’s son and family.
