Microsoft will soon be ending support for its popular operating system, Windows 10. The company has already confirmed that Windows 10 will no longer receive any security updates, feature updates, or technical support starting October 14, 2025. This means that those still using Windows 10 on their laptops will either have to upgrade to Windows 11 or pay for extended security updates.
What will happen after Windows 10 support ends?
It's worth noting that Windows 10 still runs on millions of computers in India. Students, small businesses, and users with older hardware are still using Windows 10. However, now that support has ended, such systems may be vulnerable to security risks and cyberattacks. Microsoft also states that users can continue using Windows 10 if they wish, but doing so is "at their own risk."
Windows 10 users have these options.
For those who still want to stay on Windows 10, Microsoft has already announced the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Under this program, users will have to pay $30, or approximately ₹2,550, to receive security updates for a full year, until October 13, 2026. However, the exact price in India is not known.
No new features will be available.
It should be noted that this program will offer specific security patches. No new features or upgrades will be available. Overall, if you are still using Windows 10, upgrade to Windows 11 in time or maintain your security through the ESU program.
