If you think you're filling up too often it might not be your car, or your driving - it could be down to your tyres.
Drivers could be wasting hundreds of pounds a year on fuel without realising it and according to fuel experts it's all because of their tyres.
Gordon Wallis from WeCompareFuelCards.com explains driversare unknowingly wasting hundreds of pounds every year due to their tyres not being properly inflated. "Something as simple as keeping your tyres properly inflated can have a dramatic effect on your fuel bills," says Gordon.

"Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance, which means your engine has to work harder and burns more fuel with every journey over the course of a year, that can easily add up to hundreds of pounds wasted at the pump."
However, it’s a simple fix but one, many of us overlook. Tyre pressure can dip far faster than people think - especially with the UK’s unpredictable weather.
"That’s why it’s vital to check them regularly – it only takes a few seconds at a petrol station, but the savings on fuel, not to mention the improved safety and handling, are significant."
To put it simply, Gordon compares it to something many of us have felt first hand - like trying to cycle with flat tyres. "Think of it like cycling with flat tyres - you need much more effort to cover the same distance. Cars work exactly the same way."
"By making sure your tyres are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended level, you’ll not only save money but also reduce wear and tear on your tyres and cut down on carbon emissions."
And while it sounds like another chore to remember, it pays off and making this a habit now could say you hefty bills. "I always recommend checking pressures at least once a month and before long journeys," he advises. "It’s one of the quickest and cheapest maintenance habits drivers can get into, and the benefits extend far beyond the petrol pump."
So before your next petrol refill, a 10-second tyre check might be the best stop you make all week, and could save you money in the long run.
