Farmers of Jammu and Kashmir got relief

The Central Government released the 21st installment ahead of schedule on October 7 to provide relief to 8.55 lakh farmers of Jammu and Kashmir affected by floods, landslides and heavy rains. This step has brought smiles back on the faces of the farmers.

Rs 171 crore directly into accounts

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan transferred an amount of Rs 171 crore to the bank accounts of farmers through video conferencing from Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. 85,418 women farmers have also benefited from this amount. According to government data, till now farmers of Jammu and Kashmir have been given assistance of Rs 4,052 crore under PM Kisan Yojana.

PM Kisan Yojana: What is special?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, started in 2019, is a big support for farmers. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 6,000 is given every year to eligible farmers. This amount is deposited directly into their bank accounts in three installments, i.e., Rs 2,000 every four months. The objective of this scheme is to stabilize the income of farmers and meet their farming needs.

Government’s support in disaster

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is standing with the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir at every step. Farmers affected by natural disasters will not be left alone. Releasing the 21st installment ahead of time is our promise that we will fulfill every need of the farmers.”

Advance help has already been received

This is not the first time that the government has paid the installment ahead of schedule. The 21st installment was also given earlier to the farmers of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh in September 2025 due to heavy rains and floods. In these states too, natural disasters had caused huge damage to crops.

Achievements so far

8.55 lakh farmers in Jammu and Kashmir have got direct benefits from this scheme. Till now, a total amount of Rs 4,052 crore has been distributed, in which women farmers have also got an equal share. This scheme not only provides financial help, but is also helping in making the farmers self-reliant.
