I banished mould in 2 minutes with no scrubbing - this item is a game-changer

When it comes to removing mould from places in your home, there are so many different so-called solutions to get your head around. With lots of people swearing by all manner of different methods, how are you supposed to know which ones actually work?

Some will tell you there's no need to resort to pricey chemical cleaners because one standard kitchen ingredient is enough to do the trick. Others will put forward different kitchen ingredients, claiming they're equally as effective. One writer splurged £180 on a dehumidifier to rid her home of mould - and was very impressed with the results.

Unconvinced by kitchen ingredients like baking soda or vinegar, and unwilling to spend £180 on a dehumidifier to solve the problem, I turned to a product that I'd heard others swear by.

Mould had started to spread rapidly along the silicone sealant between the top of my bath and the tiles on the wall, as well as on to the frame of the shower screen. With four people living in the house, including two young children, my bath and shower are used very regularly. The bath is also full of toys and in the past I've noticed to my horror that some of them were covered in mould. I really want to avoided this mould spreading to those toys again so made removing it a priority.

My colleague, Millie Bull, had seen people with similar mould problems raving about a mould-removing product on a Facebook cleaning page. Convinced, she took the plunge and bought it and, in turn, began singing its praises to her colleagues. Mould Magic can only be purchased from Must Have Ideas and claims to remove mould in two to three hours.

It makes the bold claim that "it penetrates deep-down into the surface, eradicating all types of mould at the source,
so it cannot come back - ever - we guarantee it!"

Millie said she was "astounded" by the results, which is what made me buy Mould Magic to try it for myself. She said it transformed her grout from a yellow-orange colour to a bright white. She also said it removed the mould from her shower sealant and shower runner, which she said was "by far the most impressive transformation".

Mould Magic is a clear gel that you can use it on silicone, grout, walls, windows and even furniture. All you need to do is apply the gel straight from the tube, leave it on for two to three hours before wiping it off with a damp cloth. I actually left it on overnight as that's the only time I could be confident in my house that the bath and shower wouldn't be used!

It took me a maximum of two minutes to apply it to the areas I needed to and then I just left it there. The next morning, I returned and wiped it off easily with a cloth. There was a strong bleachy smell but this soon dissipated when it was wiped away.

I have used Mould Magic twice, but I only documented the results the second time. I did exactly as recommended by the packaging, applying the product to the mould, leaving it for a number of hours before returning to wipe it off. The first time I used it I could not believe the results. Even before I went to wipe it away there was not a trace of the mould - not one tiny spot! I was amazed as nothing has ever got rid of mould like that before.

However, the fact I had to use it a second time shows that the product's claim to stop mould ever coming back does not stand up to scrutiny, at least not in my house. I didn't mind this, though - mould is incredibly difficult to keep out of bathrooms in UK homes which are frequently warm and wet inside, with windows often kept closed against cold weather, preventing ventilation and helping mould grow.

The second time I used it, although the results were good, they were not as good as the first time around. They did get rid of the vast majority of the mould with ease and transformed how my sealant looks (see the picture above). But there was still the odd tiny spot left. I think this might be because the product had thinned out a bit since I had first opened it a few months ago.

But I am still hugely impressed with it and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has a problem with mould.

Writing in Good Housekeeping, Jasmine Vorley said: "Living in a damp-prone flat can feel like a constant battle against mould, so I was keen to see if this cleaner genuinely works. When I wiped away the gel, I was surprised to see the silicone seal and grout in my shower had been almost completely restored. The results weren't as perfect as the ads might have suggested (are they ever?) but they were still seriously impressive."

Users on Mumsnet have been impressed too. One said: "It promises to get rid of it forever which it didn't for me, but it did get rid of some really stubborn mould in my shower that nothing else would work on."

Another said: "It worked really well so I admit I was very impressed. Used it on silicon sealant and on grout."

But another said: "I'm not buying the hype to be honest. Whilst it removed some mould off the silicon sealant it turned most of it brown and I reapplied and left it overnight as suggested. It did clean up some bits of the grout, but was patchy in the results. I wouldn't buy it again."
