Schools' AI Study: The Ministry of Education is now going to make Artificial Intelligence (AI) a part of mainstream education in schools across the country. From the next academic session, 2026-27, AI will be included in the curriculum for all students from Grade 3 onwards. To this end, the Ministry is developing a comprehensive AI integration framework.

Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar stated that it is crucial to prepare both students and teachers for this new technology in the coming years.

"We need to move quickly so that teachers and students feel comfortable with AI in the next two to three years. The challenge is to prepare over 10 million teachers across the country to teach AI. To this end, the CBSE is developing an AI framework for all classes," he explained.

AI is being taught in over 18,000 schools.

He added that a pilot project is currently underway, teaching teachers to prepare lesson plans using AI tools. Kumar added that the aim is to prepare both learners and teachers for the digital economy. Currently, AI is being taught as a skill subject in over 18,000 CBSE schools starting in grade 6 as a 15-hour module, while it is offered as an optional subject in grades 9 to 12.

2 million jobs could be lost
This announcement came after the NITI Aayog released its report, which stated that approximately 2 million traditional jobs could be lost in the future, but 8 million new jobs could also be created if the country develops the right AI ecosystem. The report recommended linking the proposed "India AI Talent Mission" and the ongoing "India AI Mission." Furthermore, partnerships between educational institutions, industry, and the government should create an environment where adequate computing infrastructure and data are available—so that a new generation of talent can become tomorrow's innovators and researchers.
