Research from Dallas-based Vantage Point Counseling Services shows that 54% of Americans now AI Adopting someone as a friend, therapist, romantic partner, or co-worker. The most shocking thing is that about 28% of adults are having romantic or intimate relationships with AI chatbots.
According to the IFS report, the declining sexual and emotional relationships among the youth are deeply affecting the mental health. To fill this void, people are turning to AI partners. Talking to machines, sharing emotions and feeling understood is now being replaced by AI. “People are now looking to machines for the support they can’t find in real-life relationships,” says Brian Jane McClellan, director of Vantage Point.
Research has shown that 53% of people who are in relationships with AI are already married or in a long-term relationship. They are forming an emotional bond with the AI while still being in their actual relationship. At the same time, there are 37.5% people who have failed in human relationships or are no longer interested in them. This trend has changed the definition of modern relationships.
Many such cases have come to light in the report, in which families got disintegrated due to AI relationship. A married man even proposed to his AI girlfriend. After returning from office, he started spending time talking to AI instead of his family, due to which their relationship reached the point of divorce.
According to Gurgaon-based psychologist Dr. Munia Bhattacharya, “Emotional attachment to AI can be mentally dangerous. It increases dopamine release, which gives the user immediate pleasure, but gradually it takes the form of an addiction.” Experts say that when there is no interaction with machines, the person starts feeling lonely and depressed. To avoid this, it is important that people spend time with their friends and family and give priority to real relationships.
