New Delhi . India-Canada relations, which deteriorated during the tenure of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, have started getting closer once again. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, who is on a visit to India, held a meeting with Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. In these meetings, both the countries unveiled an ambitious roadmap to enhance cooperation in the areas of trade, critical minerals and energy. It is noteworthy that after the killing of Khalistani Canadian terrorist Nijjar, there was tension between the two countries. This visit of Anita Anand is part of the effort to improve relations between the two countries.

In the meeting held at Hyderabad House with Foreign Minister Jaishankar, Anita Anand agreed to improve relations between the two countries. They also agreed to soon begin ministerial discussions on bilateral trade and investment, taking into account global economic realities and each other’s strategic priorities. It is believed that during this meeting itself, the Indian side also expressed its concern over the activities of pro-Khalistan elements growing in Canada.

A joint statement issued by both the countries after the meeting said that the two sides will move towards a better and balanced partnership based on respect for each other’s concerns and sensitivities, relations between the people of the two countries and growing economic needs.

Consensus reached on investment, AI and minerals

After this meeting between the two Foreign Ministers, India and Canada have agreed to work with each other in the economic field, under this, ministerial talks will soon start between the two countries. With this, the economic talks that had been stalled for some time will start once again. Apart from this, Canadian companies and scientists will also be included in the AI ​​Summit to be held in India in February. With this, work can be done towards increasing Artificial Intelligence capabilities between the two countries.

Agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations

After Trudeau accused the Indian government of Nijjar’s murder, relations were so severe that India recalled its diplomats from Canada, while Canadian diplomats were expelled from the country. Now after this meeting of Foreign Ministers, it has been decided to increase the number of experts in political, economic, defense and technical fields. This will not only expand formal diplomatic relations but will also make it easier to take decisions and remove misunderstandings between the two countries.

Let us tell you that this meeting between the two foreign ministers took place four months after the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney at the G-7 Kananaskis in Canada in June.
