Halifax has clarified how its rules work for customers accessing their account details. A customer asked the bank over social media about how to get a statement for their account. They queried: "Am I able to just go into a branch and get a paper statement straight away?"

Halifax responded to explain: "Yes, my colleagues in branch can print up to three months of statements for you." But this confused the customer as they had heard differently.

They went on to ask if they could in fact get the paperwork immediately over the counter. They said they had read online that some banks only allow customers to order statements in the branch and not actually print them off there and then.

In response, Halifax shared further guidance. The bank said: "Yes, branches can print statements. They can print up to a maximum of three monthly statements or lists of transactions per customer."

There is the option to order paper statements online, and these will arrive in the post within 10 working days. You can also view your statements through online banking or the mobile app.

In online banking, you can view statements up to seven years ago. In the app, you can see your statements up to at least 10 years ago.

Halifax is set to close 100 of its branches this year, with most of the closures now having taken place. A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group said: "The way people are banking has changed, with over 21 million customers choosing our apps to manage their money.

"We're providing more choice than ever before, bringing together the best in digital convenience with our people. Alongside our app, our customers can use any Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch, the Post Office or Banking Hubs for their everyday banking, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations."
