Apple is expected to drop M5 MacBook this week. A file photo of MacBook M4
Apple’s already dropping hints about what’s next — and it looks like a new MacBook powered by the M5 chip is right around the corner. In a post on X, Apple’s marketing chief Greg Joswiak said “something powerful is coming,” along with a short teaser video showing a laptop silhouette and the words “coming soon.” The fun part? Joswiak’s caption says “Mmmmm” —that’s five M’s and the laptop outline subtly forms the Roman numeral V. Coincidence? Definitely not.
Rumors around Apple’s new M5 lineup have been swirling for a while, and now it seems the wait’s almost over. This product is likely the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, which Gurman reports is “ready for launch” and will debut with the standard M5 chip. The more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max versions are expected in 2026 as Apple takes a phased approach to rolling out its newest silicon family.
Visually, not much changes this year Apple’s keeping things familiar. The bigger upgrades like OLED displays, slimmer frames, touch support, built-in 5G, and the eventual leap to the M6 lineup built on TSMC’s 2nm process are reportedly being saved for later models.
But that’s not all. The M5 chip is expected to make its way to other Apple products.
iPad Pro M5 is almost here
The next iPad Pro has already leaked before Apple could even announce it. Unboxing videos from Russia confirm it’ll pack the new M5 chip with 12GB RAM as standard. The design stays mostly the same — except Apple’s dropped the “iPad Pro” branding on the back. Expect around 12% better CPU and up to 36% faster graphics performance over the M4. Rumors of a dual front-camera setup remain unverified, keeping some mystery around the final design.Vision Pro joins the M5 club
Apple’s Vision Pro headset is also reportedly shifting to the M5 chip, bringing it in line with the rest of Apple’s high-end lineup. Expect a new Dual Knit Band for better comfort and possibly a Space Black finish. However, it’ll still use Wi-Fi 6 and not the newer standards. Whether Apple calls this a “Vision Pro 2” or just a spec bump is unclear but it signals a push toward unified power and performance across Apple’s top-tier devices. With the M5 lineup shaping up across the MacBook, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro, Apple seems to be setting the stage for efficiency gains, longer battery life, and smoother cross-device performance — all before the major design overhaul expected with the M6 generation.
