Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all set to return to international cricket after a gap of more than 6 months. Rohit and Virat are part of the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia beginning at Perth on Sunday (October 19). But before the ODI series can get underway there is some bad news for the ‘Ro-Ko’ duo as they have slipped in the ICC ODI rankings. Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran made a massive jump in the latest ODI rankings released on Wednesday moving up 8 places to number two spot thanks to his brilliant performance in the series whitewash of Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi this month. Zadran was the top run-getter in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh scoring 213 runs at an average of 71 with 764 rating points. The Afghanistan batter’s rise means that Rohit slipped to the 3rd position in the rankings with 756 points while Kohli is in 5th place with 736 points behind Pakistan’s Babar Azam. India’s new ODI captain Shubman Gill retained the top spot with 784 points heading into the ODI series. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has also slipped one place to 9th with 704 points. In the bowling department Zadran’s Afghanistan teammate Rashid Khan became the new world No. 1 bowler in ODIs with 710 points replacing South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj at the top. Rashid claimed 11 wickets in the ODI series against Bangladesh at an amazing average of 6.09 with a five-wicket haul in the second ODI. The West Indies batters to gain are Shai Hope (up 34 places to 66th) and John Campbell (up six places to 68th) who scored centuries in the second innings. Kuldeep Yadav achieves career-best position The ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings see India spinner Kuldeep Yadav attain a career-best 14th position rising seven places after an eight-wicket match haul. Jomel Warrican and captain Roston Chase have gained two and four places respectively to reach 30th and 57th positions. Yadav claimed 8 wickets in the 2nd Test win over West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi this week – his second-best performance in Test cricket. The Delhi Capitals chinaman bowler was also named ‘Player of the Match’ for his bowling show in the second game.
