in Sanatan Dharma Dhanteras The festival has special significance. The festival of Deepotsav, which lasts for five days, begins from this day. On this day, houses are specially cleaned and Ganga water is sprinkled all over the house. Then in the evening, Lord Dhanvantari, the father of Ayurveda and the physician of the gods, is worshiped by lighting a lamp. Also, worshiping Kubre and Mata Lakshmi on this day has special significance.
According to religious beliefs, on the day of Kartik Krishnapaksha Trayodashi, Lord Dhanvantari, the father of Ayurveda and the physician of the gods, appeared with the nectar pot. For this reason, the festival of Dhanteras is celebrated as the festival of his appearance on this day.
According to mythological beliefs, when the churning of the ocean started between the gods and demons, 14 major gems were born from the churning of the ocean, in which Lord Dhanvantari himself appeared as the fourteenth gem, holding the nectar pot in his hands. Lord Dhanvantari is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. During the churning of the ocean, Lord Dhanvantari holds Ayurveda scriptures in one hand, medicine pot in the other, herbs in the third and conch in the fourth. He is considered the physician of the gods and the master of medicines. For this reason, every year on Dhanteras, Lord Dhanvantari is worshiped only for the wish of wealth and good health.
There is a tradition of buying gold, silver, jewelery and utensils on Dhanteras. In fact, when Dhanvantari ji appeared during Samudra Manthan, he had a pot of gold in his hands, that is why there is a tradition of buying utensils and other metals including gold and silver on Dhanteras. Buying gold, silver, brass and copper utensils especially Kalash on this day is considered very auspicious.
