Health Desk. Protein is an important nutrient for our body, which is necessary for building muscles, repairing tissues and overall health. Often we consider eggs and chicken as the best sources of protein, but in reality there are some vegetarian options which contain more protein than eggs and chicken.

1. Soybeans and Soya Chunks

Soybean is a plant-based superhero of protein. 100 grams of dry soybean contains about 36 grams of protein, while the protein content in 100 grams of soya chunks reaches about 50 grams. All nine essential amino acids are found in soybean, making it a complete protein source. It is an excellent alternative to non-vegetarian protein for vegetarians, and is also beneficial for the heart and bones.

2. Pulses and beans

Pulses like kidney beans, chickpeas, moong and lentils are cheap and nutritious sources of protein. For example, 100 grams of dry kidney beans contain about 24 grams of protein and 100 grams of dry chickpeas contain 19 grams of protein. They are rich not only in protein but also in fiber, iron, folate and other important minerals. These improve digestion and provide energy to the body for a long time.

3. Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds are a good source of protein as well as magnesium and healthy fats. 100 grams of pumpkin seeds contain about 19 grams of protein. These can be taken as a snack or mixed in salad, oats, smoothie. These are also beneficial for heart and brain health.

4.quinoa

It is a vegetarian food and contains about 8 grams of protein per cooked cup (about 185 grams). It is a good source of a “complete protein” with all nine essential amino acids, making it an excellent choice for vegetarians.
