Choosing a baby name can be tricky, especially when parentscan't agree on a moniker no matter how hard they try. But it seems parents in the UK have quietly agreed on a new trendfor 2025 - as BabyCentre clocks an increase in girls with celestial names.

Sharing the most popular names of the year so far, the naming experts said: "At BabyCentre, we’re always keeping an eye on what’s trending in baby names, and 2025 is already full of surprises. As the UK’s most trusted sources for baby name inspo, we’re in a unique spot to spot shifts as they happen."

When it comes to girls names, BabyCentre noticed various celestial names jumping up their most popular list, with Nova (No. 76), Arabella (No. 46), and Hallie (No. 50) on the rise.

A statement adds: "We’re seeing parents gravitate toward bold, modern names at the end of the alphabet - think Zoe (No. 34), Zara (No. 37).

"And Ayla (No. 19) for girls, and Syed (No. 84), Zion (No. 74), and Zayne (No. 94) for boys."

While the top 10 names for boys have stayed steady throughout the year, there has been some big movers further down the list.

A statement adds: "Myles is the biggest climber, jumping 21 places to No. 70. On the flip side, Finn has taken a tumble, dropping 42 spots to No. 98.

"We’ve also seen 11 fresh names break into the top 100, including Austin (No. 67), Musa (No. 77), and Hugo (No. 79)."

  • Commenting on 2025 naming trends, one expecting parent said on Reddit: "I think there will be a huge surge in boy names that end in -ie/-y in the US.

"They’re huge in the UK and always have been (Archie, Freddie, Alfie, Sonny) but they’re creeping in the charts in the US too. I think they’ll really shoot up the charts.

"Archie has gone from not being in the charts since before 1990 to #347 in 2023.

"Freddie isn’t quite there yet but I think we’ll definitely see it in the 2024 data, same with Alfie.

"Sonny has steadily been rising in the past 5 years, I think we’ll continue to see that!"

Another added: "I think we'll continue to see vintage names such as Pearl, Ethel etc grow in popularity and I don't think we've reached peak Eloise for girls yet.

"Similarly I think 2025 could see Elise becoming really popular (if it's not already)."

A third said: "A continuation of nicknames as first names. We’re in the serious minority with our friends with giving our daughter a formal name and not just naming her the given nickname."
