Uttarakhand News: There is relief news for the railway passengers of Uttarakhand — Ministry of Railways, Government of India has approved increasing the service frequency of Dehradun-Tanakpur Express (15019/15020) from weekly to tri-weekly (three days). The Railway Ministry has issued an order in this regard.

Result of Chief Minister Dhami’s efforts

This topic was discussed in detail during the meeting of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami with Honorable Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in New Delhi on 08 October 2025. On the request of the Chief Minister, the Railway Ministry, taking immediate action, has given approval to run the Tanakpur-Dehradun train service thrice a week. According to the new timetable, 15019 Dehradun – Tanakpur Express will now run on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. (Earlier it ran only on Sundays) 15020 Tanakpur–Dehradun Express will now run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. (formerly ran only on Saturdays)

This service enhancement has been done keeping in mind the increasing demand of passengers and regional connectivity. Giving priority to the convenience of the passengers of Uttarakhand, the Railway Ministry has directed to implement this decision with immediate effect. Expressing gratitude to the Railway Minister and Railway Board for this decision, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “The expansion of Dehradun-Tanakpur rail service will make the travel between Kumaon and Garhwal more convenient. This will not only increase the convenience of passengers, but will also give a new impetus to trade, tourism and regional development.”

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, historic work is being done to strengthen rail connectivity in Uttarakhand. Work on rail projects is going on at a rapid pace in many parts of the state, which will ensure rail connectivity to the hilly and border areas in the coming times. In the order issued by Shri Vivek Kumar Sinha, Joint Director (Coaching), Ministry of Railways, it has been said that instructions have been given to immediately implement this decision and ensure wide publicity.
