Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Marc Guehi will leave the club - months after his failed move to Premier League champions Liverpool. The Austrian revealed that the England international will not sign a new contract and he will, subsequently, depart the club on a free next summer.

Liverpool saw their deadline day efforts to sign Guehi fail - after Palace couldn't get a replacement over the line in time. Brighton & Hove Albion's Igor Julio was on the verge of completing a move to their rivals at Selhurst Park, but chose a loan to West Ham instead.

It meant that Guehi remained in South London until at least January. At that stage, it's expected that Liverpool will return to the table next summer to complete a move.

There have been reports that Palace may look to sell him in the winter transfer window, which will be their final opportunity to recoup funds for his services. "I think Marc has already told us that he doesn't sign a new contract, so he will leave next year," said Glasner on Friday.

"The club wanted [him to stay]. They offered Marc a new contract.

"But he said; 'No, I want to make something different'. And that's normal.

"And for us, it's how we can deal with this situation? [What] is the best way to get this next step done? And that's all about how we are talking together."

Whether Liverpool make the move in January remains to be seen. It had initially been reported that they would not re-enter the race at the turn of the year.

However, since then, 19-year-old defender Giovanni Leoni has suffered a season-ending knee injury. The Italian was stretchered off against Southampton on his debut and underwent surgery to resolve the issue.

While Guehi is out of contract at the end of the season, Liverpool are also facing the prospect of losing Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer too as his deal expires at the end of June. Owing to his contract expiring in the summer, Guehi is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs overseas from January 1.

Liverpool and Premier League rivals Manchester City are said to be interested, but there is overseas interest with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also said to be interested in the former Chelsea youngster. Palace chairman Steve Parish revealed that their involvement in Europe was one of the reason's behind the plug being pulled on Guehi's move to the Premier League champions.

"It's a difficult decision," Parish told talkSPORT. "It's as simple as that these things are never black and white.

"I decided in the end that, based on the advice that I got and also with what I think, that we would have a better season if we kept Marc. We don't guess about these things.

"If you look at it rationally, if you look at what is worth the place in the Premier League, the fact that we're in the Conference League for the first time in our history, this is a fairly unusual set of circumstances in which to keep a player. If we were fighting between the difference of 10th and 14th, if that was going to be the difference between keeping Marc and letting Marc go, then probably we would have said; 'Right, we should take the money'."
