Dry Day on Diwali? When will liquor shops be closed in different states; check state-wise list

The annual festive season has officially kicked off with Dhanteras and many are wondering whether upcoming Diwali and Bhai Dooj festivals will be a Dry Day in various states and if liquor shops will remain closed in different parts of the country. Check out which states will observe a Dry Day on Diwali and Bhai Dooj. Which states will observe dry day on Diwali? According to officials Diwali will be observed as a dry day across several states including Uttar Pradesh Madhya Pradesh and national capital Delhi while liquor shops will remain open on Dhanteras and Bhai Dooj. On the dry day all licensed liquor shops and outlets including government and private license holders will be prohibited from selling alcohol while hotels and restaurants will also be barred from serving liquor to customers. Additionally consumption of liquor in public spaces on dry days could invited fines even legal action. Earlier this month a liquor ban was imposed in various states including Uttar Pradesh on October 1 and 2nd as Ram Navami Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti fell on these dates. Additionally meat and liquor shops remained shut in various districts of Ludhiana Amritsar and Jalandhar in Punjab on October 6 and 7 on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti while a public holiday was observed in UP on October 7. Upcoming dry days in various states As per the Excise Department dry days will be observed on the following dates in different states in November and December 2025. Liquor shops will remain shut on November 1 on the occasion of Kartiki Ekadashi. Dry day will be observed across Punjab and other states on Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 5. Liquor sales will be prohibited in several states including Punjab Guru Tegh Bahadur Shaheedi Diwas on November 24. December 25 will also be observed as a dry across many states due to Christmas.
