A dramatic scene unfolded in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, when a woman attempted to end her life by jumping into a canal after leaping off a moving motorcycle. Her husband’s quick reaction and presence of mind saved her in the nick of time. The incident, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the Jaswant Nagar police station area. The woman, identified as Manju Kumari from Pengu village in Firozabad district, was traveling with her husband Vikas Kumar and mother-in-law from her in-laws’ home in Bharthana Kandhsi to her parental home in Sirsaganj. During the journey, a heated argument broke out between the couple.
When they reached the Bhognipur Gang Canal Bridge near Malajani, Manju, in a fit of anger, suddenly jumped off the bike and ran toward the bridge, attempting to leap into the canal below. Acting swiftly, her husband grabbed her hand just as she was about to fall. With the help of a passerby, he managed to pull her to safety. Eyewitnesses said that even a moment’s delay could have resulted in tragedy.
Police were immediately informed, and Station House Officer Kamal Bhati reached the spot with his team. The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman’s suicide attempt stemmed from a minor argument with her husband. The police pacified her and took her to the police station for questioning before handing her over to her family.
