Meta recently announced that it plans to shut down its popular Messenger app. The company has informed its users that the Messenger desktop app running on Windows and macOS will be completely disabled from December 15, 2025. After this date, users will not be able to login to the app and its features will be lost. From now on, chats will be possible only through the Facebook app. Meta has said that soon users will be informed about this change through notifications. Users will receive an in-app alert as soon as the app shutdown process begins. Before the app is shut down, users will be given 60 days.
Meta also advised that users should delete the Messenger app soon, as after 60 days it will stop working completely. However, Mac and Windows users will be able to continue sending messages through Facebook’s website or desktop app. Additionally, Meta advises users to activate the “Secure Storage” feature and set a PIN so that their chat history remains safe. When users switch to the web version, chats will automatically sync across devices.
