IND vs AUS: The three-match ODI series between India and Australia will start from October 19. Shubman Gill will captain the team on this tour. Gill said that since childhood he has considered Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as his idols.
Shubman Gill is leading a team which has former captains like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. This is being considered as the initial step in preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be played in the year 2027. However, Gill has clearly said that there has been no change in his relations with the two senior players.
“I think the story outside is different, but nothing has changed between us. Everything is the same as before. It is very helpful,” captain Gill said on the eve of the first ODI in Perth. “Whatever they feel, their experience, whatever they have learnt, whether it is reading the pitch or any situation they face, I go to them and ask what they think. If they were in my place, how would they have done it? Then, I take a decision based on my understanding of the game. I like to know people’s thoughts,” the 26-year-old player said.
He said, “Whenever I have any doubt about anything, I go to him. Take his suggestions. Take his advice. He never hesitates in telling me anything. I think that is the real wealth of experience.”
He said, “These are the same players whom I idolized in my childhood. The kind of hunger they inspire inspires me. It is a great honor for me to lead such legends of cricket. I am sure there will be many moments in this series where I will be able to learn from them. If I get into a difficult situation, I will not hesitate to take advice from them.”
Gill said, “I have had several conversations with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on how to take the team forward. I think these learnings and experiences will help our team moving forward.”
