Ruth Langsford was left red-faced as she reminisced about a comical incident when she unintentionally posted a picture of a penis alongside a Mother's Day tribute.

Confessing her lack of tech-savviness, the TV presenter had good intentions when she shared a photo of herself and her family. She captioned it: "My wonderful Mum and big Sis. Thinking of those who no longer have their Mum's..... you'll always have memories x".

She uploaded the image as a screenshot, oblivious to the fact that she'd also captured her camera roll, which shockingly included - oh the horror - a generous helping of male nudity. One was even in a shoe.

"Someone had sent me a cheeky photo of a man's appendage in a shoe, but it wasn't immediately noticeable. So I took a photo of me and my mum and didn't realise that the photo gallery was below..." she explained on Loose Women a few years ago.

"I remember coming in and someone saying, 'You're the front page!' and I reacted in horror!"

However, she insists the naughty snapshot didn't belong to her husband Eamonn Holmes, with whom she has since split up.

"Oh, it wasn't Eamonn," she said in 2018, before confessing she's now learned to double-check everything.

"Now I immediately check everything a million times!" she said.

Reflecting on the incident, she did admit that Peen-gate had earned her some street cred with their son, Jack.

"Eamonn was worried that people would think it's him. I thought my son would be embarrassed, but apparently I'm on a very trendy cool website now, that Ladbible!" she laughed.

In other news, Ruth spilt the beans on what the Strictly professionals are really like behind the scenes. She appeared on the BBC show in 2017 and was partnered with Anton Du Beke, when she saw the Strictly professionals in their natural habitat.

The presenter confessed she'd previously assumed there would be a "separation" between the celebrities and the pros, but her experience couldn't have been more different.

"I loved it because it's so not my world.," Ruth said. "It's almost like theatre – they're all changing and makeup-ing. I used to sit in my chair by the door where I got my makeup done, and I loved it, because I could see in the mirror behind me – everyone in and out, the amazing makeups that those teams do – incredible.

"I loved the crew and the team, and I know everybody says that – it sounds like such a cliché – but it's absolutely true. And it's a phenomenal team – the choreographers, the professional dancers, hair, makeup, costume, everything, the set, the band – it's just a phenomenal show, and I hope it lives on, and on, and on. And I'm sure it will, because the public loves it. It only gets better every year, in my opinion."
