First look of Vande Bharat sleeper train: Finally the first view of the long awaited Vande Bharat sleeper train has been revealed. This train is very attractive. It is designed for long journeys with modern features and fast speeds, which has the potential to completely change the way overnight travel is done.
Till now, Vande Bharat trains were available only in daytime chair-car version, suitable for short distance travel. But when it comes to long journeys, especially distances of more than 700 to 1,200 km, travelers need a comfortable bed.
Indian Railways has taken an important step through Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, which aims to bring together the facilities of the capital, the speed of Vande Bharat and modern technology. According to official information, this train will have a total of 16 coaches:
This setup will be able to accommodate more than 1,100 passengers, which will include approximately 800 sleeping berths. Each coach will be fully air-conditioned, with advanced features like wide and comfortable beds, improved stairs to climb to upper berths and stylish interiors for a comfortable journey.
Safety and convenience have been given priority. The train will include automatic doors between coaches, more restrooms (including one for disabled passengers), odor control system, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, LED information screens and India’s own armor protection technology to prevent collisions.
The aerodynamic design of the Vande Bharat sleeper train enables it to run at speeds of up to 180 km/hr, while the regular service is expected to be around 160 km/hr. Due to its electric multiple unit (EMU) setup, it will accelerate and decelerate faster than regular trains, saving time on long journeys.
Vande Bharat sleeper train is likely to be launched on the route from Delhi to cities like Ahmedabad, Bhopal and Patna, which will cover the distance of 1,000 km in much less time than existing trains. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has indicated that the official launch could happen between October 2025, after the second set of coaches is ready.
