The five-day festival of lights lasting five days from Dhanteras i.e. Diwali begins. Diwali is a big and important festival in Hindu religion. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Diwali is celebrated every year on the new moon day of Kartik month with great zeal, enthusiasm and purity. This year the festival of Diwali is on 20 October. There are two mythological stories behind the celebration of Diwali. According to a legend, on the new moon day of Kartik month, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after completing 14 years of exile and killing Ravana, in joy of which the people of Ayodhya welcomed him with the light of lamps in the entire city.

Whereas, according to another story, Goddess Lakshmi had appeared on the day of Kartik Amavasya. Due to which, on the night of Diwali, on Amavasya Tithi, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Gamesh and Kuber Dev are worshiped in Pradosh Kaal and Sthira Lagna. According to the Vedic calendar, the Amavasya Tithi of Kartik month will start on October 20 at 03:44 PM, which will end on October 21 at 05:44 PM.

Auspicious time for Lakshmi-Ganesh worship

Lakshmi worship has special significance on Diwali. Pradosh Kaal and Sthir Lagan are considered to be the best auspicious time for worshiping Lakshmi on this day. It is believed that by worshiping Goddess Lakshmi in this stable time, she becomes happy and starts residing in the form of her part. In such a situation, the auspicious time for worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on Diwali will be from 07:08 pm to 08:18 pm. In this way, the total duration of puja for the householders will be 01 hour 11 minutes.

Importance of Pradosh Kaal and Vrishabha Kaal

According to the scriptures, the most suitable time to worship Lakshmi on Diwali is Pradosh Kaal. Pradosh Kaal is the time after sunset. According to religious beliefs, by worshiping Lakshmi during Pradosh period, Goddess Lakshmi starts residing permanently. In such a situation, on the night of Diwali, Pradosh Kaal will last from 05:46 pm to 08:18 pm. Whereas Taurus period will last from 07:08 pm to 09:03 pm.

  • Before worshiping Lakshmi-Ganesh on the evening of Diwali, clean the place of worship and its surrounding areas thoroughly, then sprinkle Ganga water.
  • For Diwali Lakshmi puja, the north-east corner of the house i.e. the north-east direction is most suitable.
  • First of all, place a stool at the place of worship and spread a red cloth over it.
  • Install the idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha at this place.
  • After this, worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha with all kinds of worship materials and offer the worship materials.
  • After this, offer food to Goddess Lakshmi, perform aarti and get the blessings of happiness and prosperity.
