But during Diwali, fake sweets and adulterated khoya are also seen in the markets. Some greedy shopkeepers adulterate khoya for their profit. This kind of khoya can harm you. This can cause diseases like food poisoning, stomach ache. To identify such adulterated khoya, one can adopt these easy home methods.

identify by rubbing with hand

Rub a little khoya on your palm. If it is genuine then it will smell slightly of ghee and will leave greasiness on the hands. Fake khoya will look sticky and may also smell bad. Try to make a small ball of khoya. If khoya is real then it will easily form into a ball without breaking. Fake khoya breaks quickly or develops cracks.

Try heating or iodine test

Lightly heat a small piece of khoya in a pan. Real khoya releases ghee when heated. If khoya is fake, it leaves a watery substance and no ghee. Put a little khoya in your mouth and taste it. Real khoya will taste like milk and will dissolve quickly. Fake khoya will give a strange sticky taste and will not dissolve quickly. Apart from this, real or fake can also be detected through iodine test. Mix some khoya and one drop of iodine in a bowl of hot water.
