China-US Trade Deal Controversy: Tension regarding the trade deal between China and America is at its peak. Meanwhile, on Sunday, China has accused America of a major cyber attack, in which its national time center has been seriously damaged. Beijing says that the attack was carried out by America’s National Security Agency (NSA).
According to Chinese officials, this attack could have affected the country’s important services like network communication, financial system and power supply, but due to timely alertness of security agencies, major damage was avoided.
China’s Ministry of State Security reported in a WeChat post that in 2022, the NSA exploited a vulnerability found in the messaging service of a foreign mobile phone brand to steal sensitive information from the devices of National Time Center employees. However, the ministry did not reveal the name of that mobile brand.
The Chinese ministry claimed that the US agency targeted the center’s internal network using 42 types of special cyber attack weapons and tried to infiltrate a critical system to scheduling between 2023 and 2024. China says it has enough evidence of this attack, although no evidence was shared in the post.
However, the US Embassy has not yet given any official response to these allegations. This development is expected to further increase the already existing tension between America and China on issues like trade, technology and Taiwan.
The National Time Center works to prepare the standard time in China and distribute it throughout the country. The center provides time- services to sectors such as communications, finance, energy, transportation and defence. The ministry said it has given necessary instructions to the Center to eliminate security risks.
China also accused America of adopting double standards. The ministry says, America itself carries out cyber attacks and accuses others of the same. He is continuously making false claims about cyber threats to China.
