UIDAI SITAA Aadhaar App: Unique Identification Authority of India (Unique Identification Authority of India)UIDAI) has taken a major step to make the country’s digital identity system more secure, faster and reliable. the organization has SITAA (Scheme for Innovation and Technology Association with Aadhaar) has been started. The objective of this program is to strengthen the Aadhaar ecosystem through technological innovations and promote new generation security technologies.

Deepfakes detection and security will get a new dimension with the help of AI

Under SITAA, UIDAI will develop cutting-edge AI-based solutions based on modern technologies such as real-time deepfake detection, face liveness detection, and contactless fingerprint authentication. For this, UIDAI has invited innovation proposals from startups, educational institutions and industries across the country. The last date for these proposals has been fixed as 15 November 2025. UIDAI says that this initiative will further strengthen the technical credibility of Aadhaar and keep the digital identity of citizens safe from potential cyber threats.

Partnership with MeitY Startup Hub and NASSCOM

To make the SITAA program successful, UIDAI has tied up with MeitY Startup Hub (MSH) and NASSCOM.

  • MSH will provide mentorship, incubation and accelerator support to startups.
  • NASSCOM will work to increase connectivity with the industry and strengthen global cooperation.

According to UIDAI, “SITAA is an important step towards India’s secure, self-reliant and inclusive digital identity system.”

SITAA’s three major technical challenges

Face Liveness Detection:

Startups are being encouraged to create software development kits (SDKs) that can quickly detect fraud such as deepfakes, masks or photo spoofing. The system should be equally effective across different devices and environments.

Presentation Attack Detection:

Research institutes will have to develop AI and machine learning-based systems that can identify biometric attacks such as print, replay or morphing. These solutions need to be fully compatible with Aadhaar APIs.

Contactless Fingerprint Authentication:

UIDAI wants solutions that can identify fingerprints without touching them with the help of smartphone cameras or low-cost sensors. This technology will comply with liveness detection and AFIS standards.

Steps towards self-reliant India in digital identity

The SITAA program is part of UIDAI’s long-term strategy to make the Aadhaar system secure from challenges such as deepfakes, biometric fraud and data manipulation. This initiative will not only strengthen the digital public infrastructure but will also realize the vision of a self-reliant India, thereby moving India towards global leadership in the field of digital identity technology.
