SL W vs BAN W: Bangladesh became the first team to be eliminated from the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 as soon as the won game was overturned. Sri Lankan captain Chamira Atapattu played a big role in showing Bangladesh the way out of the tournament by defeating them in the match. The Sri Lankan captain wrote the script of Bangladesh's exit from the tournament in the last over of the match. While doing this, he also gave the best performance of his 15 year ODI career.
Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 202 runs against Bangladesh in the match played at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. In reply, Bangladesh team, chasing the target of 203 runs, scored 194 runs for 5 wickets in 49 overs. That means, the match was within his grasp. Now in the last over he had to score 9 runs to win and 5 wickets were left in hand.
Seeing the big crisis facing the team, Sri Lankan captain Chamira Atapattu also took a big decision. He decided to bowl the last over himself. And, they say that luck also favors the courageous. Chamira Atapattu took the wicket of Rabeya Khan on the first ball of her 10th and 50th over of Bangladesh's innings. After this, Nahida Akhtar was run out on the second ball. Meaning, 4 wickets fell on the first 4 balls and zero runs were scored.
Now the last 2 balls of Bangladesh's innings were left, on which they still needed 9 runs. Now only 1 wicket was left in hand. Bangladesh stole 1 run on the 5th ball of Sri Lankan captain Atapattu. No run was scored on the last ball. And, in this way Bangladesh team lost a won match. The result was that he had to be out of the tournament.

After taking 4 wickets for 42 runs in 10 overs in bowling, he also wrote the script of his 50 wickets in ODIs. Atapattu also has the best bowling figure in ODI with 4 wickets for 42 runs against Bangladesh.
