According to Sinchewthe topic “Laurinda Ho and Shawn Dou divorce” quickly garnered nearly 2 million views after Chen subtly mentioned the issue during a livestream.
“A wealthy girl married an actor, and he spent nearly all his savings on the wedding,” Chen said during her live stream. “The girl’s family gave no financial support, not even a house. Now they’re preparing to divorce, and the man hasn’t even recovered his money from the wedding.”
Chen then stated that a woman should not marry into a family with a lower social and financial status.
Viewers soon connected Chen’s comments to Dou and Ho, with many speculating that Dou suffered significant financial losses following the wedding. Many alleged that Dou spent around HK$80 million (US$10.3 million) on the lavish ceremony in Bali, Indonesia, and their honeymoon residence. Meanwhile, all of the dowry real estate was reportedly registered in Ho’s name.
The status of Ho and Dou’s relationship has been questioned for some time. Sources claim that Dou deleted all photos of Ho from his Weibo account and changed his profile bio from “Laurinda Ho’s husband” to “young actor in film & television.” He is said to be living alone in a hotel while focusing on his filming projects.
According to Hong Kong media, Dou’s career has suffered since the marriage, with his annual film appearances dropping from lead roles to guest spots in four projects. Meanwhile, Ho has attended numerous family events alone and made public appearances without Dou. The couple’s last public outing was in Dec. 2024 at the premiere of Ho’s debut film “Promise of Decades.”
There are also rumors that Dou and Ho never completed their marriage registration. Speculation online suggests the process was delayed due to Ho’s mother Ina Chan allegedly requiring Dou to sign a prenuptial agreement addressing asset division and fertility tests, which he reportedly refused.
Neither Ho nor Dou have publicly confirmed or denied the rumors.
The couple publicly confirmed their relationship in April 2019. During their courtship, they often shared moments together on social media, including trips and visits to each other’s work sites. Dou even took a break from work to visit Ho’s father in Hong Kong, staying for several weeks. Ho, in turn, reportedly had her hair long and dark to follow “traditional rituals” to match Dou’s preferences.
In April 2023, the couple hosted a wedding in Bali, which was personally organized by Dou, from the venue to the imported floral arrangements.
Ho, 34, is a successful socialite and businesswoman, with her mother Chan’s fortune estimated by Forbes to be around US$1 billion as of 2021. Her father Stanley, passed away in 2020 at the age of 99. In 2019, Bloomberg estimated Stanley’s net worth at around US$14.9 billion, ranking him as the 17th wealthiest individual in Asia at the time.
Dou, 37, is a prominent actor known for his role in Chinese director Zhang Yimou’s “Under the Hawthorn Tree.” He has since starred in several high-profile films, including “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Time To Love,” and “Princess Agents.”
