Khichdi is a dish made in almost every household. It's considered very beneficial for health. Often, after eating something heavy during the day, one craves something light in the evening. Khichdi is often the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of light food. Today, we're going to share the recipe for Kathiyawadi Masala Khichdi. It's a popular choice. It's light on the digestive tract and delicious. Its recipe is simple, making it an easy-to-prepare meal.

Ingredients

Rice – 1 bowl
Mung dal – 1 bowl
Onion – 1
Tomato – 1
Potato – 1
Peas – 1/2 bowl
Grated ginger – 1 teaspoon
Garlic cloves – 4-5
Chopped green garlic – 1 tablespoon
Chopped green chili – 1
Finely chopped coriander leaves – 3 tablespoons
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric – 1/2 teaspoon
Red chili powder – 1 tablespoon
Garam masala – 1/2 teaspoon
Oil – 4 tablespoons
Salt – to taste

Recipe

- Clean the rice and lentils and then wash them with water. Then cut the onion, tomato, and potato into small pieces.
- Next, take a pressure cooker and add the soaked lentils and rice. Then, add chopped potatoes, peas, turmeric, and a little salt to the cooker.
- Add four times the amount of water to the lentils and rice, close the cooker, and cook the khichdi. The lentils and rice will be cooked thoroughly in 3-4 whistles.


- Now, heat oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds, garlic cloves, grated ginger, and asafoetida and fry.
- After a few seconds, add finely chopped onions and chopped green garlic and cook, stirring with a spoon.
- When the onions begin to soften, add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, garam masala, and a little turmeric, and cook while stirring.
- After some time, the tomatoes will soften and the masala will begin to release oil. After this, add a little water to the pan and let the masala boil.
- Then, add the cooked khichdi and mix. Cook the khichdi on a high flame for another 2 minutes.
- Then, add green coriander leaves and turn off the gas. Kathiyawadi Khichdi is ready. Serve it hot.
