In the Women’s World Cup, India will take on a formidable New Zealand squad in Navi Mumbai on Thursday in an effort to snap a three-match losing streak and secure their final semifinal berth in what is effectively a quarterfinal. At Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side could advance to the semifinals as the fourth team if they defeat the White Ferns.

However, India may have to rely on other results if they make any mistakes, as they did in their last three games. England would need to defeat the White Ferns and then defeat Bangladesh in India’s final group match after losing to New Zealand in order to advance.

Rain is a threat going into this match for New Zealand, who need to win their next two games to stay in contention, as forecasts call for “rain or thundershowers” in the evening or night. India would have an advantage in the case of a washout and a higher net run rate.

India has clearly suffered under pressure. Despite finding themselves in strong positions, the team has repeatedly faltered, losing three consecutive games against Australia, England, and South Africa, the other World Cup semifinalists. Harmanpreet described the most unexpected loss in Indore as a “heartbreak,” as India failed to chase 56 runs off 54 balls on a batting-friendly pitch with seven wickets in hand. South Africa and Australia capitalized on India’s bowling weaknesses.

As the Indian camp manages the demands of a home World Cup, the difficulties extend beyond team lineups and bowling depth.

Navi Mumbai Weather Forecast

Things could get even more complicated due to the weather. Strong thunderstorms and rain have a 75% chance, according to Google Weather. The local forecast calls for clear skies to start around 3 p.m., but showers are expected to intensify around 5 p.m. and may continue until midnight.

Rain is expected later in the day, but there will be a slight breeze and sunshine in the morning, according to BBC Weather. It is predicted that rainfall will rise from 11% at 4:30 p.m. to about 70% at 8 p.m., then continue through the night before decreasing around 2:30 a.m. on Friday.

AccuWeather predicts “a couple of thunderstorms,” with heavy rain expected to last for around 90 minutes in the evening, and a humid morning with real-feel temperatures of 41°C.

India’s match against New Zealand is expected to be a high-stakes affair both on and off the field, with semifinal qualification and bad weather adding to the drama.
