Tilak Verma has been the hero of India's victory in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025. He had snatched victory from Pakistan's hands in the final. But, do you know that it would not have been possible for Tilak Verma, who made India the champion of Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan, if Akash Ambani and Jai Shah had not shown haste in saving his life 3 years ago. India's left-handed middle order batsman told this truth of his life in Gaurav Kapoor's show - Breakfast with Champions.

When Tilak Verma fell victim to a fatal disease

Tilak Verma said that in the year 2022, he was playing a series with India A in Bangladesh, where while batting, he became a victim of rhabdomyolysis, which is a fatal disease. In this, the muscles of the body start breaking down and a chemical called myoglobin enters the blood flowing in the veins, which directly causes damage to the kidneys.

Recalling that fatal moment of his life, Tilak told that he was moving towards his century. Then suddenly his eyes started straining. His fingers stopped working. He felt as if his body had turned to stone. Because everything was frozen.

Tilak Verma told that due to deteriorating health he had to retire. He told that he remembers that the gloves were cut off from his hands. Because the fingers of the hands were not bending.

Akash Ambani and Jay Shah helped, saved his life

Tilak Verma also praised the efforts of Akash Ambani and Jai Shah in escaping from that deadly disease. He thanked him for that. He said that as soon as he came to know about my deteriorating health, Akash Ambani contacted the then BCCI Secretary Jai Shah. He asked him about my condition. And, then with the efforts of both of them, I was admitted to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment. Tilak Verma told that the condition was so serious that the doctor had said that if it had taken some more time, he could have died.
