YouTube has announced that it has paid over $8 billion to the music industry in one year. This is more than all of YouTube's previous payments. YouTube is making a fortune through its subscription model and advertising. It has been stated that both methods are working well, and it has benefited the music industry. YouTube paid $6 billion to the music industry in 2022, after paying $4 billion in 2021. Now, the $8 billion paid between July 2024 and July 2025 has shattered previous records. Lyor Cohen, YouTube's Global Head of Music, says that they want to create a good platform for every artist, songwriter, and publisher.

The Subscription Model Has Worked
YouTube is generating substantial revenue from subscription and advertising models. According to reports, YouTube has over 125 million music and premium subscribers worldwide, including trial users. Every month, 2 billion people watch music videos on YouTube. YouTube directly benefits from this, which it shares with the music industry.

Singers Don't Get All the Money
Many people are confused that if YouTube pays the music industry, it must go to the singers. This money doesn't go directly to the artists. A portion goes to record labels (in India, T-Series and Saregama), publishers, lyricists, and others.

Support in 80 Languages
YouTube is available in over 100 countries and supports 80 languages. Just last month, YouTube announced that it had paid creators, actors, and media companies over $100 billion in payments in four years. In a blog post, YouTube stated that as the platform expands, the potential on YouTube is also increasing.

Other platforms also make payments.
YouTube isn't the only platform that pays the music industry. Other apps like Spotify do so as well. Reports indicate that Spotify paid $9 billion in 2023. YouTube also offers a YouTube Premium subscription. It also offers a YouTube Music subscription, which allows you to listen to music without hearing or watching ads.
