Liverpool boss Arne Slot has offered an update on the fitness of Alexander Isak ahead of the Reds' trip to Brentford on Saturday. The Sweden international was forced off with a groin injury at the midway point of Liverpool's 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Liverpool signed Isak from Newcastle for £125million on transfer deadline day in the summer after the goalscorer had informed Magpies chiefs that he no longer wanted to play for the club. The 26-year-old has endured a slow start to his Anfield career, with his only goal for the team coming in a Carabao Cup victory over Southampton last month. And he may be forced to wait for his next Liverpool appearance.
Slot was asked about the health of his squad before the clash in west London. And he explained: "Alex is not too bad. Question mark for the weekend and let's see where he is."
The Dutchman then gave an update on Ryan Gravenberch, who missed this week's trip to Germany after leaving the pitch with an ankle issue during Liverpool's defeat against Manchester United last weekend.
"That's the same to be said about Ryan," he added. "He didn't travel with us [to Germany], yesterday we were in and today as well."
And turning his attention to goalkeeper Alisson, who has missed the Reds' last three matches with a hamstring injury, the manager said: "Alisson is not in the squad. That's also going to take a little bit longer."
Slot then gave a concerning statement about Jeremie Frimpong after the defender left the pitch with another hamstring issue just 19 minutes into the match against Frankfurt.
The player missed two league matches in August due to a hamstring injury and has played just 84 minutes of Premier League action following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
"Jeremie is not in a good place," Slot conceded. "He's definitely not going to play today, tomorrow or next week. Hamstring injury is going to take a while."
Liverpool travel to Brentford off the back of three consecutive Premier League losses, with the Merseyside giants suffering defeats against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Slot's side have scored just seven goals in their last six league matches, despite shelling out hundreds of millions of pounds to reinforce their attack during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool have slipped to third in the table, four points behind leaders Arsenal, with Manchester City currently positioned in second.
