To combat the arbitrariness of private cab services like Ola and Uber, the central government has launched the country's first government-run cooperative cab service, Bharat Taxi. Its app, called Bharat Taxi, is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. You can start using it immediately after downloading it. Currently, only limited services are available on this app, and the Bharat Taxi pilot project will begin in the capital, Delhi, in November.

According to reports, the pilot project will involve 600 drivers. When it is gradually rolled out nationwide starting in December, approximately 5,000 more drivers will join. The NBT Tech team downloaded and used the app. Let's quickly explain how to book a cab and use it.

Create an account
First, you need to download the app from the Play Store or App Store and create an account. To do this, tap Sign Up on the app's home page and enter the required information, such as your name, email address, phone number, and password.

After this, an OTP will be sent to your number, and your account will be created.

Now log in to the app using your phone number and the password you set.

How to book a cab
After logging in to the app, the app's home page will open. Currently, the app's services are limited.

On the app's home page, you'll find options like Rentals, Outstation, and Local Transfer. You can use the Rental option to rent a car for 8 hours. The Outstation option is for those who want to travel outside the city.

To travel nearby, tap the Local Transfer tab. Currently, cabs can be booked from the airport or to the airport. Drop-off locations can also be selected from a list of locations. It's expected that by November, users will be able to select pickup and drop-off locations on the app, just like they do on Ola or Uber.

Once you've selected pickup and drop-off locations, you'll need to tap Search. You will then see a list of available vehicles.

To select one, tap Select. Then, tap Confirm Booking to confirm the booking.

Fare information will be displayed. Tap Next and then Book Now to confirm the booking.

How to Cancel
If you want to cancel a booked cab for any reason, tap My Rides at the bottom of the app.

You will then see the details of the cab you booked.

Tapping the Pending option next to your booking will also bring up the Cancel Ride option.

Tapping Cancel Ride will ask you for a reason for cancellation. After providing the reason, tapping OK will cancel your ride.

Note:
During our use, we found that the app is not fully ready for use at this time. The app currently offers limited services, and even if you manage to book a cab, it's difficult to understand how to contact the driver. Furthermore, the app often crashes during use. It's hoped that these shortcomings will be addressed by the time the pilot begins in Delhi.
