Coming into the dead-rubber in Sydney, the Delhi-born cricketer still needed 54 runs as he scored two consecutive ducks, putting him under scrutiny. The former Indian captain did look edgy at times early in his innings but normal service resumed as he began plucking the ones and twos easily. The star cricketer breached the tally of 14234 in the 32nd over of the innings by taking a single off the 32nd over of the innings.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stitch unbroken 168-run partnership as Team India beat Australia by nine wickets to end series

Joining Rohit in the 11th over of the innings after Shubman Gill was dismissed for 24 by Josh Hazlewood, Kohli got off the mark straight away and gave a fist pump to himself for getting his first run in the series. Rohit, who made 73 in the previous match, continued to make hay in Sydney by reaching the triple-figure score in the 33rd over of the innings.

Together, the prolific duo stitched an unbroken 168-run stand as the Men in Blue chased the total of 237 only in 38.3 overs. Rohit also earned the Player of the Match award for his 121. Nevertheless, the Aussies sealed the series by winning the first two games.

India and Australia will turn their attention to the T20Is, beginning on October 29 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.
